Display
- How bright is the display?
The display is 8.4" and is transflective. The brighter the
light the brighter the display will get. Without any light the
measured brightness is 800nits, but gets brighter as ambient light
increases. We have never had a problem with reading the
display in the cockpit with over 100hours of flying with CyclopsEMX.
- What is the resolution of the display?
800x600 with 256 colors.
- Wow! That display is big.
Yes it is. With all the information being displayed
anything smaller would require a magnifying glass.
Note that with all the instruments you are replacing. This is
alot of information displayed all at once. You do not need to
swap screens to get at checklists, weight and balance, etc.
The data is all shown in the "Message Area". Note the
independent CHT and EGT bar graphs with temperatures displayed for
each.

Software Updates are FREE!
- How easy is it to upgrade the software in CyclopsEMX?
There are two computers inside CyclopsEMX.
All the data for one computer is stored on a compact flash card that can easily be
removed from the unit if required. You do all the software
updates via the USB flashdrive. You can download your updates
from the internet for free or you can send in your compact flash
and have us do the update for you (for free).
The other computer has its updates downloaded from the main
computer. You put the update on the compact flash card
(using your USB flashdrive) and the update will automatically be
downloaded to the other computer (the engine interface box) and
voila you update is done.
Note that other engine monitors have software burned into EPROM's
and requires that you send the unit back to them for an update
(for a fee). We just don't think that is fair that you pay
for bug fixes or enhancements.
If we do a major enhancement of the software that includes many,
many new features we would charge a modest fee for the upgrade.
But only if you want that feature. Your current version will
always be maintained and any problems found will be fixed for
FREE.

Flight Summary, Position Data, and
Engine Data Recording
- How many hours of Engine Data can I record?
With the 1Gig compact flash card you can store 2500 hours
worth of data storing data every second.
- How many Flight Summaries can I store in CyclopsEMX?
You can store thousands of flights in CyclopsEMX....if you
do get thousands of flights you can off load the data onto a
flash drive. You can monitor the free storage counter to
see how much space you have left. But you should not have
to worry about this unless you fly 10times a day. With the
price of compact flash cards coming down in price and increasing
in size this will only get better in the future.
- What is stored in the Flight Summary?
Each flight summary contains the date, time, length of
flight, fuel used, fuel flow average, oil temp average (in
cruise), cht and egt max, volts, amps, and outside air
temperature.
- How often is the position saved for position tracking?
Your position is updated every second
